To keep your cutting board stable while chopping, place a grip liner underneath, this will prevent slipping and reduces the risk of accidents. As you cook, make it a habit to clean as you go. This keeps your workspace clean and saves you from a big cleanup, and lets you fully enjoy your meal after all the hard work is done. Don’t be afraid of salt—it’s your friend! It enhances the natural flavors of your ingredients. And if you accidentally over-salt a dish, don’t worry! You can balance it out with a splash of acid, like lemon juice.
In my opinion, the best part of cooking is that you don’t need expensive gadgets to make great food. While social media and cooking shows might suggest otherwise, as a college student, the last thing we can afford is cookware that costs hundreds of dollars. Instead, here are a few affordable essentials I recommend: a non-stick pan, a rice cooker, a good knife set, a plastic cutting board (cheaper and easier to clean), a mixing bowl, a measuring cup set, and two pots—one large and one small. Pro tip: You can find all of these at Walmart or TJ Maxx for a great price!
